Efficient shredding of crop residues can be considered as a valuable addition to soil fertility and an essential tool in the promotion of good crop husbandry. With the increasing use of minimal tillage systems for crop establishment, the intensive shredding of crop residues or cover crops has become increasingly important. It is essential to promote a quick and efficient breakdown, aiding reabsorption of organic matter back into the soil, thus improving soil structure and fertility. In large scale operations, especially where residues can be mature or bulky, the requirement is for a chopper with a wider working width and which is built to withstand the rigours imposed by use on higher horsepower tractors under intensive working conditions.
